Support the restoration and preservation of the original film

With the Kickstarter campaign, the crowd funding effort to restore the last remaining Tom Waits For No One film began.

We got a great head start for the restoration and continue the effort here. As of December 5, 2016, we are at 59% of funding to complete the restoration. For every donation, 100% goes to the film restoration and if you donate $25 or more, you will be included in the film credits for the newly restored version of Tom Waits For No One.

If you prefer to purchase a book or t-shirt, 20% of the purchase will go towards the film restoration.

The Process

Professional restoration is a rigorous process that includes expert cleaning and repair, color correction and frame by frame transfer to a digital medium, executed by individuals with expertise in the process.

Film Festival Showing

Tom Waits For No One will be updated to showcase live-action footage of Tom Waits from 1979. The update will also include filmed documentation of the restoration process. Each financial supporter of the restoration project will also be included in the newly updated credits.

The new film will be entered into specially picked film festivals in 2016 - and in 2017, will be uploaded for public display. Don't worry, though, you won't have to wait until 2017 to see it. As a backer, you'll get private, web-viewable access to the film before the rest of the world sees it!

Into the Vault with The iotaCenter

The original film, and the newly restored version, will be archived by The iotaCenter and stored at the Academy Film Archive in Hollywood, California. The iotaCenter is a public benefit, non-profit arts organization whose mission includes foregrounding historically underrepresented experimental works through exhibit, preservation and fostering research through their on-line and on-site collections.
